International driver's license

International driving license is not necessary. All visitors may rent a car in Montenegro in the presence of a valid national/domestic driving license.

Driving regulations?

Speed limit in Montenegro is 80km/h on the open road, unless signs specify otherwise. The speed limit inside the cities is 50km/h.

Safety belts - The use of safety belts is compulsory

Mobile phones - Use of cell phones while driving is prohibited. Hands-Free systems are an exception.

Headlights - It is necessary to use headlights 24 hours a day.

Winter Tires

Winter tires are mandatory in the winter season, from November 1st to April 1st.

What documentation do I need to hire a car in Montenegro

A valid driving license in the name of the main driver and additional drivers is required. An International License is not required.

  • The official capital is Podgorica. The Royal capital is Cetinje.
  • The population of the whole country (estimated in 2016) is 622,218 people.
  • Montenegrins are the second tallest nation in Europe. The average height of the representatives of the stronger sex is about 185 cm.

  • In 1991, the government declared country as an "environmental power" and prescribed it in the constitution.
  • There are 117 beaches in Montenegro
  • In Montenegro, the highest automobile bridge in Europe is built - the Djurdjevic Bridge, 166 meters in height and 366 meters long, connecting the banks of the Tara River.
  • Bay of Kotor is the largest bay on the entire Adriatic coast, which is a river canyon immersed in the sea. The entire town of Kotor is on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list.
  • Petrol stations have the following fuel types: Euro super 98, Euro super 95, Euro diesel and LPG. Gas stations are located in all cities and along major roads
